One of my best gal pals got a new french door refrigerator. It's a beauty. It's an LG Panorama French Door Refrigerator. It has an ice/water dispenser on the outside, always wonderful to have, and Glide N'Serve Drawers. It's a smooth finish they call Titanium. It definitely must be a girl thing to get so excited about a new refrigerator, but I can understand my friend's jubilation. She had a side by side refrigerator freezer. My friend loves to cook and her refrigerator was always jammed with food. I remember years ago her showing me that she couldn't fit a cold cut platter into the side by side refrigerator. I brought the platter home and put it in my refrigerator for her. It was then that she decided she wanted a French door refrigerator.
I went with her when she looked at a variety of French door refrigerators. She looked at Whirlpool French door refrigerators, which they call "side by side with a bottom freezer". She didn't find a Whirlpool French door refrigerator with an outside water/ice dispenser that she wanted.
She looked at Amana French door bottom freezer refrigerators. The Amana was Energy Star qualified. It had an exterior control panel so you can adjust the internal temperature and a door alarm which warns when the door has been left open. It had humidity controlled crispers.
The most important piece of information we got when shopping for her refrigerator was it's important to buy the correct size. Buying an oversized refrigerator can cost more in the long run. Refrigerators run at their most efficient when they're 80% full of food, according to the salesman at the appliance store.
He said that for the first two family members you'd need 12 cubic feet of food storage space. After that, you'd need an additional 4 cu. ft. of food storage for each additional family member. My friend has three children, so she'd need a 24 cu. ft. French door refrigerator. It was also pointed out to us that a French door refrigerator allows you to open only one door, thus letting less cool air escape.
My friend did what most people do when they replace one appliance, they go with the brand they already have in their kitchen. Since my friend had recently had an LG stove put in her home she wanted to stick with that brand.
Her new French door refrigerator looks beautiful in her home, I have to admit that the styling is much nicer than a side by side. My friend is thrilled she's free to cook, or buy, whatever she wants and knows she have plenty of space in her new refrigerator to store it.
